GitLab: Instructions for Getting Started

Guide Number:
34
Abstract:

Git is version tracking software. The CRMDA Git guide, Git it Together! is available separately Guide 31. Git it Together! Version Management for Research Projects. That has a lot of details about using Git (cloning repositories, checking their status, sending changes back to the remote server). GitLab is a Web program that allows our team members to create Git repositories and regulate user access to them. Our GitLab server server address is http://gitlab.crmda.ku.edu. We are already using that server to make widely available a number of general purpose documentation projects, such as the high performance computing working examples: https://gitlab.crmda.ku.edu/crmda/hpcexample. We also keep research projects there, some of which are private.
